First at all, I think this is done in many countries because it is something natural, something humans have in our inner self but Mexicans do it because it is an activity mainly manly.

Second, this is done because of economics. It’s better to do repairs or improvements by ourselves and expend some money than pay much more money and get a regular outcome or something we don’t like. This thinking is very common in developing countries like México.

Everything I have done in diy it has been because I helped some friend or because in home was needed a fast repair. Today carpentering, brickworking or plumbery are work fields I have null knowledge. My most famous project was the repair of a washing machine, which didn’t function. The problem was the distribution band, it was wore down. So, I replaced it, lubricated the motor axis and screwed some bolts. The spending was way less than hiring a technician.
